Employer of Choice
Whether it's on the job training or higher-level commitments to diversity and inclusion, Tolko is working to become an employer of choice for Indigenous people. An engaged and dynamic workforce will help us on our path forward together.
We are helping employees to be successful in their positions. For example, in Kamloops, BC, we partnered with the Aboriginal Training and Employment Centre to pilot jobs for our Heffley Creek plywood plant. The training included essential skills, job readiness training, and job specific training.
Helping ensure prosperous Indigenous communities means supporting community initiatives. This can include youth leadership programs, wellness, sports and recreational activities, and educating people about forestry. An example of our community support includes the sponsorship of the Red Stone rodeo of the Alexis Creek First Nation. The sponsorship helps this annual event continue, supporting the athletes involved and the opportunity for the community to come together during the days of the rodeo.
We are helping ensure that Indigenous youth are able to achieve their educational and career goals. In Saskatchewan, Saskatchewan Polytechnic helps make dreams come true for Indigenous youth. Tolko provided financial support to Saskatchewan Polytech for the development, design, and distribution of an activity book to promote continued career education and career development. Over 25,000 copies of the book were distributed to schools and career fairs throughout Saskatchewan.
These are just some examples of our work in the community, and we will continue to seek opportunities similar to these to help foster flourishing Indigenous communities.
